Frequently Asked Questions

1. If I join JROTC does it mean I will have a military obligation?

Answer: Absolutely not. JROTC is designed to help the cadet, student, learn the skills necessary to become a more active and productive citizen. Although we use time tested military teaching techniques, and require that you wear the JROTC uniform, there is no military obligation.

2. What are the extra curricular activities available through JROTC.

Answer: Drill Team, both regulation and exhibition; Color Guard; Honor Guard; and, Raider Team.

3. Do I have to be a member of the extracurricular teams?

Answer: Yes. Cadets are expected to be an active member of one or more of the extracurricular teams hosted by the JROTC Department.

4. Do I have to participate in any of the parades or social events?

Answer: Yes. These events are an integral part of all cadet activities. All cadets are expected to attend.

5. How do I get promoted?

Answer: Before Cadets can be promoted, two specific criteria must be met: First, the cadet must meet a very specific set of guidelines established for the rank they are being promoted to; and, second, there must be a vacancy. As cadets meet the eligibility requirements, they will either be promoted immediately or they will be placed on an order of merit list. Cadets on the order of merit list will be promoted as vacancies become available, dependent upon their continuing to meet the eligibility requirements.

6. How do I become a member of the Cadet Staff

Answer: Hard work and attention to detail are the best methods to help increase the possibility that you will be selected for one of the Cadet Staff positions. Normally the Cadet Staff positions are held by those who are LET 4-8, simply because they are generally the most experienced and knowledgeable. In all cases, those selected for staff positions will be the cadets who adhere to the ideals of the Cadet Corps both in JROTC and out.

7. Do I have to wear the uniform?

Answer: Yes. Cadets are required to wear the uniform as a condition of the JROTC course. Cadets normally will wear their uniform every Wednesday. Uniforms will also be worn as necessary for participation in the various cadet extracurricular activities. All uniform items are issued free of charge for the initial issue. Cadets are required to maintain their uniforms in a usable fashion.
