COURSE DESCRIPTION

Computer Applications II is designed to help students master beginning and advanced skills in the areas of desktop publishing, presentation graphics, web page design, and integrated software applications.  Telecommunications and on-line services will also be introduced.  Emphasis is placed on the refinement of skills of commonly used application programs.  Critical thinking, work-based learning strategies and the international marketplace will also be discussed.  Students will discuss ethical issues as they relate to computer and Internet use and will gain vital leadership skills.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Demonstrate proper use and care of computer equipment

  • Learn to use various software programs including multimedia and web editors

  • Develop appropriate work habits and leadership

  • Use the Internet and learn related terms and search procedures

  • Examine computer related careers

  • Discuss ethics in the workplace

 COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS

  • When the tardy bell rings, the students should be seated and working on the warm-up exercise/SAT word of the day as written on the board.

  • All work should be completed and turned in by the end of the class.  All work is due the day it is assigned.

  • Students should take proper care of the equipment; any deliberate misuse of the equipment will result in disciplinary action.

  • There is a required $20 Computer Applications fee due at the beginning of the semester.

  • Students must make up work missed due to absences.

  • The state generated VoCATS posttest will be the final exam

GRADING         

Student evaluations are in compliance with Columbus County Schools policy and may include the following:  daily class work, class participation, current events summaries, and formal tests (VoCATS objective tests and performance tests).

 

             Formal tests will count towards 75% of the grade.  All other assignments will count

        towards 25% of the grade.
