ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM

Accelerated Reader (AR) provides English teachers with an easy and effective way  to monitor all forms of guided reading practice.  With AR, teachers get detailed and objective data to target instruction and ensure success for every student, regardless of level, from emergent reader to college prep! It's as easy as 1-2-3.  First, the student reads a library book or a textbook selection. All types of student reading are monitored, including guided, paired, literature-based, and textbook reading. Secondly, the student takes the quiz.  The quizzes provide the assessment information to help motivate reading, monitor progress, and target instruction to accelerate reading growth.. Thirdly, the teacher gets immediate information feedback on the reading level and percentage of questions passed. English teachers using AR, continuously guide students to appropriate books and curriculum within their zone of proximal development.  This means that every student can be challenged without being frustrated.

Students can take AR quizzes in the media center with teacher permission or in their English classroom.

BOOK FAIRS/ BOOK DISPLAYS

The media center sponsors a Scholastic Book Fair each year for a week. Students are allowed to visit the book fair before school, after school, and during their lunches. Teachers may sign their classes up to visit also.. This project allows the media center to build its book collection by selecting free books for the media center. Also, a book display is in the media center about 5-6 times a year. Kirby Books is a company that displays books, devotionals, games, cards, toys for teachers/staff, parents and students to select and buy.
