NC Teacher Cadet Course Syllabus
Course Description
The North Carolina Teacher Cadet Program is a course designed to engage students in hands-on experiences related to the career of teaching and to stimulate critical analysis of issues faced daily in the teaching profession. Topics of study include growth and child development, alternatives to traditional education, teaching methods, lesson plan development, educational psychology and the history of education. Teaching opportunities in the classroom will provide practical learning opportunities for the Teacher Cadets.
Field Experience
Teacher Cadets may participate in field experience activities related to teaching. Students will be responsible for teaching several mini-lessons to students at various learning levels. These mini-lessons should follow the six-point lesson plan.
Course Requirements
Students are to be in their seats and ready to begin the lesson when the tardy bell sounds. Each student will need to purchase various school supplies for the Teacher Cadet class throughout the semester. I am aware that teaching materials are expensive, so I will try to work with each one of you as best I can. However, a durable portfolio (a three-ring binder works well) will be a requirement. Students should bring their individual portfolios, notebook paper, assignments from the previous day, and a pen to class daily. Students should obey classroom and school rules at all times.
- There is a required $20 Digital Communications fee.
Grading Procedures
Means of student evaluation include the following: daily classwork, class participation, formal objective assessments, group projects, portfolio evaluations, and formal assessments. Testing day for the Business Department is Friday.
- Formal Evaluations (i.e. announced tests) will count towards 75% of the grade.
- Informal Evaluations (i.e. daily classwork) will count towards 25% of the grade.
