South Columbus High School is a four year public high school, established in 1992 by the consolidation of Nakina, Tabor City, and Williams Township High Schools which were accredited by North Carolina State Department of Education and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. We are located four miles east of Tabor City, North Carolina on Highway 701. The scheduling plan is 4X4 with ninety minute class periods. There are two semesters each year and the students complete four courses each semester.
South Columbus High School is dedicated to total school improvement. Our vision focuses on improved academic performance, increased student involvement, and commitment to educational success. Implementation of vigorous academic standards, along with increased dedication to the development of the total child through emphasis on the student's mental, social, and psychological needs, will produce graduates ready to embrace the 21st century with the skills needed for success.
The South Columbus High School Varsity Cheerleaders just successfully completed a “Give Five Read Five” Book Drive where new and used books were collected as part of a program set up by June Atkinson, the State Superintendent of Schools. This program maintains that reading at least five books over the summer can help students maintain reading skills while they are away from school and the classroom. The books we collected will be given to Columbus County Schools Elementary students to take home and read over the summer. Over 600 new and used books were collected through this community service project.
